Grounded legal research · India
Legal answers you can actually cite.
Clauselex researches and drafts for Indian advocates — retrieving ranked authorities from open legal sources and answering only from what it finds. Every citation is verified before you see it, and grounding is enforced in code — so invented case law never reaches you as fact.
Free tier · no card required · litigation timeline free for everyone
The problem
General AI invents case law. Manual research burns your day.
The tools you have force a bad trade-off: fast but fabricated, or reliable but painfully slow.
Hallucinated citations
ChatGPT and other general models confidently cite cases that don't exist — or misstate the ones that do. For a lawyer, filing a fake citation isn't an inconvenience; it's a professional and reputational risk.
Slow, expensive manual research
Cross-checking Indian Kanoon, SCC, and Manupatra by hand eats hours per question. The clock runs whether or not you find the authority you need.
Repetitive drafting from scratch
Replies to notices, standard petitions, routine correspondence — rebuilt every time, even when a perfectly good template sits in a folder.
Is it still good law?
Knowing whether a precedent has been overruled, distinguished, or merely followed takes painstaking citator work — and getting it wrong can sink an argument in open court.
The grounding guarantee
Grounding is enforced in our code — not asked for in a prompt.
Most AI tools politely request that the model avoid making things up. Clauselex is built so invented law never reaches you as fact.
No authorities, no answer
With grounding on — the default — if nothing relevant is retrieved, the model is never even called. Clauselex tells you it found nothing rather than guessing, so it never invents case law to fill a silence.
Every [n] citation is verified
Before an answer renders, each citation is checked against the authorities actually retrieved. Any that don’t resolve are stripped out and flagged — never quietly left in.
Unverified claims are flagged
Any legal proposition not backed by a citation is marked “unverified” so you know exactly what to double-check. Quotes come only from retrieved passages, never from the model’s memory.
Every answer keeps an audit trail
Every message stores a full GroundingReport — what was retrieved, what was cited, what was flagged — so you can trace any answer back to its sources.
The result: answers you can actually cite, and honesty about the ones you can’t yet.

Deep Research · Deep tier
An agent that shows its work.

- Live, collapsible research trail — watch every step
- Reads full judgments, not just snippets
- Pulls appeal chains and later treatment as it goes
- Every step saved to your matter
Deep Research plans, reads, checks history and reflects — then answers only from what it found.
Citator · “Is it still good law?”
Know before you rely on it.
Clauselex maps the deterministic High-Court-to-Supreme-Court appeal chain, then classifies how later judgments treated a case — followed, distinguished, criticized, overruled, or neutral — each with the verbatim snippet that justifies the label. Red “overruled” flags are dual-gated, so you get a real warning, never a false alarm.
- Deterministic appeal chain with evidence and confidence
- Five-label treatment analysis, each with a real snippet
- Dual-gated “overruled” flags (explicit language + bench strength)
- The journey timeline is free for everyone
Red “overruled” flags require explicit overruling language plus bench strength — a real warning, not a guess.
Draft studio
Reply in your own hand — as tracked changes.
Upload the notice you received and one or more of your own sample drafts. Clauselex replies to the notice point by point while mirroring your samples’ structure and tone, and every edit arrives as a track-changes suggestion you accept or reject — per change or in bulk. Nothing is a black box, and nothing lands in your document without your say-so.
- Notice in → point-by-point reply out, in your style
- Green insertions, red deletions — accept or reject each
- Versioning with restore, comments and reviews
- Export to Word (DOCX) or print-ready PDF
AI edits arrive as suggestions, mirroring your own templates — accept, reject, or refine, never a black box.
Matters & collaboration
Built for a chamber, not just a chat window.
Everything you do is scoped to a Matter, so research, sources and drafts stay organised per case. Co-edit in real time with roles, comments and review workflows, and share select drafts to a purpose-built client portal — where clients see only what you choose, never your research or internal notes.

FAQ
Questions, answered.
How do I know Clauselex won’t invent a case like other AI tools?+
Because grounding is enforced in code, not requested in a prompt. With grounding on — the default — if nothing relevant is retrieved, the model is never called; Clauselex tells you it found nothing rather than guessing. Every [n] citation is verified against the authorities actually retrieved before the answer renders, and any that don’t resolve are stripped and flagged. It’s designed so invented case law can’t reach you as fact.
Where does Clauselex’s case law come from?+
Live case law is retrieved via the Indian Kanoon API, alongside a growing bulk corpus from AWS Open Data — roughly 17.8M High Court and 35k Supreme Court judgments, released under CC-BY-4.0. Every authority is attributed to the deciding court or tribunal, not the channel it came through. Indian judgments are public domain under s.52(1)(q) of the Copyright Act.
Is Clauselex giving me legal advice?+
No. Clauselex is a research and drafting tool, not a lawyer and not a substitute for professional judgment. It helps you find and cite authority faster, but you remain responsible for the work. Always open and verify every citation before you file or rely on it.
What’s the difference between Quick and Deep Research?+
Quick research — the default — gives you a fast, grounded answer with ranked authorities and inline citations, ideal for most day-to-day questions. Deep Research is a durable agent that plans, searches your corpus, Indian Kanoon and the web, reads full cases, pulls case history and reflects, showing its work as a live timeline. Use Deep for hard doctrinal questions where you want the reasoning laid out.
How does the “is it still good law?” check work?+
The litigation journey maps deterministic High-Court-to-Supreme-Court appeal chains, and treatment analysis classifies how later judgments cite a case — followed, distinguished, criticized, overruled or neutral — each with a real snippet. Red “overruled” flags are dual-gated, requiring both explicit overruling language and sufficient bench strength, so you don’t get false alarms.
Which courts and areas of law are covered?+
Jurisdiction is India: the Supreme Court, High Courts and tribunals. Practice areas active in the product include criminal (CrPC, NI Act s.138), tax and GST, commercial and IBC, constitutional, and RTI.
What’s in the free tier?+
The free tier gives you 5 Quick research queries per day, 2 lifetime Deep Research runs, 1 draft (without export), 1 upload, 1 matter and 7 days of history. The litigation-journey timeline is free for everyone; full treatment analysis is a paid feature (you’ll see a tease like “N later judgments cite this case”). No card required to start.
How is my data kept private?+
Everything you create is scoped to your Matters, and in team plans the client portal shows clients only the drafts you explicitly share — never your research or internal notes. The platform uses frontier AI models (Claude) and Pinecone for retrieval, with web search restricted to allowed Indian legal domains. Your work is yours; we don’t display it to other users.
Can my chamber or firm use Clauselex as a team?+
Yes. The Practice plan is per-seat (minimum 3 seats) with shared Matters, review workflows, real-time co-editing, a client portal, pooled Deep Research and one consolidated GST invoice. For larger firms or true enterprise needs, choose “Talk to us”.
Do I get a GST invoice, and can I cancel anytime?+
Yes to both. All prices are in INR and GST-inclusive, billing is self-serve through Razorpay, and GST invoicing is built in — including a single consolidated invoice for teams. Plans are month-to-month or annual, and you can cancel whenever you like.
What are Deep Research top-up packs?+
If you need more Deep Research runs than your plan includes, you can buy top-up packs: 25 runs for ₹999 or 60 runs for ₹1,999. Credits never expire, and GST invoicing applies as usual.
Can I bring my own sources into an answer?+
Yes. Paste your own reference links into the authorities pane and Clauselex fetches and analyses each one alongside its retrieved results, and you can upload contracts or notices for structured document analysis.
